ABOUT KATE KERIN
A PRACTICE SHAPED BY MORE THAN JUST DESIGN
I’m Kate, the interior designer behind Kate Kerin Interiors. My work brings together a lifelong appreciation for colour, homes and craftsmanship with decades of professional and lived experience.
I approach every project personally, with care for both the decisions being made and the lives unfolding within the home.
Experience, discernment and a deep respect for home
Kate Kerin Interiors grew from my belief that changing a home needs more than a good eye. It requires sound judgment, careful listening and an understanding of the practical and emotional weight that homes can carry.
You may be renovating a long-held home, downsizing into an apartment or creating a space that better reflects the way you live now. Whatever brings you to the process, I will take the time to understand the broader context before recommending a way forward.
A lifelong appreciation for homes, colour and craftsmanship
My connection to interiors began long before it became my profession.
I grew up around homes that were lived in, altered, repaired and reimagined, often more than once. That experience gave me an early respect for homes with history and for the skill, patience and care involved in making things well.
My father worked in the paint industry, and through him I learned to see colour as something far more nuanced than just a sample on a chart. As a teenager, I chose colours by looking to the natural world, matching walls and finishes to the hibiscus outside my bedroom window. My mother’s discerning eye and ability to see past a crumbling facade to the “good bones” underneath sparked a lifetime love of renovation. Their lessons stayed with me: design drawn from nature and lived experience has depth, relevance and longevity.
I still bring that way of observing into my work today. I pay close attention to how colour responds to light, how materials will age and how each element relates to the people and architecture around it.
I understand that changing a home is rarely just practical
My design practice grew from personal experience of family, transition and care across generations.
Supporting a family member through a major downsize showed me how emotionally demanding a change of home can be. There are practical decisions to make, but there can also be memories, relationships and a lifetime of belongings tied to those choices.
That experience strengthened my belief that clients need more than a designer with good taste. They need someone who can guide the process calmly, respect the significance of decisions and help make the path forward feel clearer.
Whether you’re letting go of a long-held family home, renovating for the future or simply reconsidering what you need from your space, I approach the process with attentiveness and respect.
Leadership, responsibility and measured decisions
Before moving into interior design, I spent decades as a senior executive in the arts sector. That experience taught me how to lead complex work, communicate with precision and take genuine responsibility for outcomes.
Preparation matters. Commitments have to be honoured and decisions need to be made with care.
Those standards continue to shape my practice today. They influence how I plan, communicate and follow through, giving clients confidence that their project is being approached thoughtfully and professionally.
Personally involved, from beginning to end
Kate Kerin Interiors is a solo-led practice. When you engage me, I will be the person listening, developing the design, making the recommendations and holding the overall direction.
That continuity helps me understand your home and circumstances in depth. It also creates a working relationship built on accountability, familiarity and trust.
